I am a degree apprentice, which means I work at a robotics company 4 days per week whilst studying mechanical engineering at university one day per week. I ran a Tough Mudder this summer and enjoy going keeping fit by going to the gym, running and playing tennis. I regularly play and run tabletop games like Dungeons and Dragons.

As a project leader, I produce custom, automated machines to help scientists do valuable research. I lead projects through concept, design, build, testing, installation, commissioning, and end user training. I use my skills as a mechanical engineer to design parts, assemblies (groups of connected parts) and entire systems using CAD (computer aided design) software.

My Typical Day:
Literally every day is different! If I’m at work, I might be designing, building or installing a robot, but if I’m at university I’ll be attending lectures and seminars.

I get to work at 8am, I could be at my desk designing parts or drafting documents, speaking to customers over Teams calls, on the factory floor with my Allen keys building robots, or travelling the world to install and commission a finished robot! Unless I’m installing a robot, I usually go home at about 4.30pm. At university, I do a mixture of in-person lectures and seminars as well as online and self-studying to prepare for exams and other assignments.

What I'd do with the prize money:
Since I left my old secondary school, they have started a robotics club, but they are struggling to get funding to be able to buy parts to compete. I would love to help some aspiring robot enthusiasts see their ideas come to life!
